Agiliron Case Study: Scaling When Bandwidth Fell Short
The mid-2000s were wild for retailers. Behind every online store lay a maze of mismatched systems, spreadsheets, and late-night patch jobs.
In Portland, a small team decided to rewrite the story. They took an open-source forum software and built the beginnings of what would become Agiliron, a platform that united sales, inventory, and operations into one clean, manageable system.
Their promise was simple but powerful:
“Sell more in more places. But manage in one.”
The Growth Spiral
By 2012, Agiliron was experiencing such rapid growth that its internal team struggled to keep pace. New clients were coming on board, integrations were multiplying, and deadlines were getting tighter.
Shopify wanted in, Magento followed, and WooCommerce and BigCommerce were waving from the corner.
The internal team was incredible, yet they were feeling the pressure, surviving on coffee and sheer determination.
Hiring locally was slow and expensive, and freelancers couldn’t offer the commitment or continuity needed for an enterprise-grade SaaS platform.
That’s when Agiliron went looking for a partner who could match their energy and standards, functioning like an extension of their team.
Enter Evon: The Offshore Ally
Evon Technologies joined the scene, quietly at first, with a single developer who aced the technical interview and immediately understood what Agiliron was building.
That one developer quickly became a team, operating in lockstep with Agiliron’s engineers. This engagement aligned closely with a staff augmentation approach, where offshore engineers worked as part of the client’s existing team structure.
Based in Dehradun, India, Evon provided the technical power and cost efficiency of a full offshore setup.
Together, we built connectors, integrated payment gateways, and rolled out new applications that became core to Agiliron’s success.
We delivered-
eCommerce Connectors
Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce
Third-party Integrations
ShipStation, Avalara Tax, TaxCloud, Vantiv (formerly MercuryPay), Magtek & Unimag (for iOS POS), EMV via Dejavoo, Intuit Payments
Core Applications
Web POS, iOS & Android POS, iOS Warehouse App
B2B/B2C Solutions
OSCommerce stores, WooCommerce plugin
The Impact
Having Evon on board gave Agiliron the breathing space it needed.
Releases became regular, bugs dropped dramatically, and the product evolved faster than before. The in-house team could finally focus on strategy instead of firefighting.
Highlights
- Faster rollout of connectors and modules
- Better performance and stability
- Flexible scaling without the usual hiring delays
- A long-lasting partnership built on trust and accountability
Still in Sync
What began as a single-developer engagement is now a long-term T&M partnership.
Evon’s team continues to build, maintain, and innovate alongside Agiliron’s core engineers, proving that great distance doesn’t weaken collaboration.
The Quiet Part Loud
Agiliron had a vision and a mission that needed a Maverick. Somewhere along the way, when the nights grew longer and the to-dos kept circling the runway, we stepped in to tighten the bolts of their deadlines.
We kept the engines steady and the releases on course. And together, we turned a good idea into something that didn’t just take off, it kept cruising at altitude.
Resource limits shouldn’t slow product growth. Let’s discuss your scaling needs.
