Since the early years of CRM, there existed a data problem which is now called Identity resolution. Identity resolution is the consolidation of customer data into a single unified record. With big companies and their large number of systems, identity resolution was an issue. Data experts have been looking for a solution and that came to them in the form of Salesforce Data Cloud, the main principle of which has been to speed up the connectivity between different ‘clouds’ across the platform.
This Customer Data Platform (CDP) product had several names before Salesforce Data Cloud could be finalized. These name changes signified the developments that happened to the product.
Customer 360 Audiences (2020) → Salesforce CDP (2021) → Marketing Cloud Customer Data Platform (2022) → Salesforce Genie Data Cloud (2022) → Salesforce Data Cloud (2023)
As the product evolved, so did Evon’s Salesforce services and solutions.
In 2020, Salesforce launched Salesforce Marketing Cloud and called it Customer 360 Audience or CA360. Developers at Evon used it as a customer data management, segmentation, and activation tool to derive actionable insights. We provided our clients with higher customer engagement and their customers with increased personalization.
⬇
In 2021, Salesforce acquired a CDP and real-time personalization platform called Evergage. They acquired identity resolution capabilities, helping our developers build a B2C source of truth for our clients on the Salesforce platform. These added features called for a change of name and that was Salesforce CDP.
⬇
In 2022, Salesforce CDP was rebranded to Marketing Cloud Customer Data Platform, spelling out the abbreviation CDP.
⬇
The same year, the product was rebranded to Salesforce Genie Data Cloud. This time, Genie (a product we used to ingest and store real-time data on a massive scale, and combine it with Salesforce data) was born at Dreamforce, which broadened the applications from marketing to sales, services, and more.
⬇
In 2023, Salesforce let go of the term ‘Genie’ and ultimately landed on ‘Salesforce Data Cloud’ that we have since then been using to power Salesforce’s GenAI innovation.
Why was Data Cloud created?
The Problem - Salesforce recognized that they had a large amount of scattered data throughout their organization.
The Solution - They adopted an agile, product-focused approach to address the issue. They began to build a Data Cloud to prove it could work, and decided to test it for themselves first.
The Result - Data Cloud created a consistent, integrated, and real-time view of each of their customers across sales, service, marketing, and commerce. Salesforce experts at Evon leverage this to the fullest. We provide our clients with access to consent and preferences for all of their customer accounts and enable them to automate numerous processes for their business.
What is Salesforce Data Cloud?
Salesforce Data Cloud serves as a platform for personalization and data unification. It allows you to bring in, align, unify, and analyze both streaming and batch data. This enables the delivery of meaningful and intelligent experiences across Customer 360 applications and beyond. The diagram below shows how Salesforce Data Cloud works.
